Blackjack Strategy

The main strategy for playing blackjack is that of knowing on what cards to bet and how much should be wagered. A player’s main strategy is to beat the dealer’s hand and the chances of this happening alter depending upon what card you are dealt first and what the dealer is showing.

As the first card is always dealt face up, you can generally make an educated guess as your chances of beating the dealer on any given hand. However, while some skill is involved in blackjack, there is still the element of chance on the turn of a card, so no strategy will work all of the time.

Players minimise their chances of losing by not taking risks like hitting on anything above hard 16 and only splitting their hand when the total is less than 16 but higher than 10, or lower than 6.

When betting, it makes sense to bet higher when your first card is a 10 and the dealer’s up card is less than 10. When the situation is reversed, it is better to bet low especially if the dealer’s up card is an ace.
