Baccarat Probabilities

The probabilities of walking away from the baccarat table with a large amount of money are purely in the hands of lady luck. With baccarat, the player is wholly reliant on the turn of the card, although the appeal is the fact that the house has a very low edge.

A bet on either the banker or player hand gives odds of 2:1 so while they are a safer bet, the probabilities of making money in the long term are not good.

To bet on a tie reduces the player’s chances of wining considerably, but this is balanced out by the temptation of an 8:1 in payout odds.

In all cases, the number of decks used will alter the probabilities slightly. It is therefore more advantageous to play with only one deck as the house edge is slightly lower. The probabilities are as follows:

One deck: Bank: 45.96%, Player: 44.68% and Tie 9.36%
Eight decks: Bank: 45.86%, Player: 44.62% and Tie 9.52%.
